DUCTILE IRON CASTING

Many of the engineering properties of steel can be realized with ductile iron casting. It has the ability to be cast in heavier sections and can be used to produce larger castings than malleable iron. Ductile iron casting has replaced forgings, weldments and steel castings in an ever increasing number of applications.

Typical Applications For Ductile Iron Casting:

Ductile iron casting is particularly well suited for valves, pumps- gears and rollers spring hangers, suspension parts, Wheel hubs, bearing caps, hardware, universal joint, threadless connectors and flanges, various automotive and agricultural items.

Advantages of Ductile Iron Casting:

Ductile iron casting provides higher tensile strength, less deflection under load conditions, no straightning required in most intances, no problems with hot tears and cracks, good machinability, easier feeding of diffucult designs.

GRAY IRON CASTING

With its wide range of mechanical properties, gray iron casting is commonly used when ductility is not necessary.

Typical Applications For Gray Iron Casting:

Gray iron is particularly well suited for general machinery, stock fittings, automotive parts, valve bodies, machine bodies.

Advantages of Gray Iron Casting:

Gray iron casting provides advantages in the areas of cost, excellent machining, dampening capacity (ability to absorb vibrations) good wear characteristics (self lubricating), compressive strength.
